No. A computer that is not being used is completely safe. Useless but safe. As soon as you start to use it again there is an element of risk.

It is possible that six weeks ago you had some malware on your computer that was not being recognised by your security software. Then the security software downloaded new definitions and was able to recognise a threat it had missed hitherto.

You could have had a virus in your PC before it was switched off, so it could still be waiting to strike.
If the security was turned off then Yes
Further to Adrian's comments, some viruses have a time delay or strike on specific dates. It could have been downloaded some time ago and was sitting there in a dormant state waiting for a specific condition to occur, like a date for instance.

Like stated above, virus' may strike at certain times, if your computer is turned off, no because the HDD is not turned on and the virus can't spread or run.

I highly recommend you use an anti-virus program like: Norton, AVG, and Mcafee.
First of all it depends, on whether the computer was turned on on or not.

Secondly if it was then you might still get them even if you have a firewall.

But if your PC was off then no, there is no possible way you can get them (unless it already had them on there)
