Is there any Viruses or Diseases in Antartica?

I know that it is very cold to have human life, but would there any superbugs that can withstand the weather and would be a danger to humans, assuming that travel in distant waters is negligible?

YES! hypothermic bacteria (general term) is a possibility, that is, a life form that adapted itself to the harsh environments of Antarctica. Now, about viruses. They can exist for sure as well. All a virus really is is a protein with replicating capacities. In your body (Heaven forbid), a virus will replicate its own genetic code and manipulate your own DNA to code for its own to make millions of copies of itself. Eventually, you loose cells and tissues begin to fail. Viruses really just are small collections of macromolecules, and in a cold environment they can exist. I could, but I won't, put a virus in my freezer. In 100 years, the same virus will be there, perfectly intact and still biologically dangerous.

well there will be bacteria because there are types of bacteria that have evolved in certain ways that allow them to survive in all environments. Viruses however would need a living host, keeping in mind that they can't survive outside of a host cell.

But not all viruses and bacteria are a threat to humans. They may not be able to survive in our bodies because its not like the environment they thrive in.
