Can you get viruses from playing games online (not downloading)?Boyfriend does and now we have alot

No, not from the game itself.

If the website is shady, really shady, then they might get a normal game to keep you entertained, and install adware on your computer without you knowing. You should download

Avast! and AVG.

They should get rid of it.

Playing games on-line is perfectly safe. The problem is getting to the games. Each and every website that you go to puts a tiny piece of information on you PC. Mostly it is your Internet habits. When enough of this builds up then other sites see your habits and trys to show you products that would appeal to you. An effective way of preventing some of these pop ups would be to delete your cookies and all Internet history. NOTICE this will also delete passwords that were saved so only do this if you remember them. Also when you download an anti-Spy-ware software you will most likely get more pop ups do to the fact that they are trying to trick you. My advice would be to get on EBAY and purchase a 3 pack of PC-cillan by Trend Micro. This is a wonderful anti Spy ware and virus protection.

Pop ups are caused by ad-ware not viruses and yes playing games on-line allows them trough-get a good spy-ware program such as spy sweeper,it will block the pop ups and you can play to your hearts content.
No it just depends on what sites that you go to play these games. Games that come from sites such as addictinggames.com, they come with a lot of pop-ups. Or it may be that your anti-virus subscription may be over with. Either go buy a new one or download one.
