Are there any computer viruses that cause hardware damage?

For example by increasing the CPU clock speed and frying it in the process?

I doubt that you have to worry about that but there are viruses that will render your hard drive useless.

No ... they cannot do that.



Some can send an instruction to older hard drives that causes them to permanently park the write/read heads. This renders them inoperable.



This in itself does not damage the hard drive ... just renders it inoperable until serviced.



Viruses are not capable of causing damage to hardware.
